Option 2: Rideshare (Uber & Lyft)

Taxis are worth considering when rideshare is surging heavily and you want a more predictable fare. The metered rate doesn’t spike the way rideshare does during busy periods.

Shared shuttle vans offer door-to-door service from SFO for approximately $18–$20 per person. The catch: shared shuttles make multiple stops at different hotels, which adds 45–90 minutes to your trip. Walk-up service is available at the airport. If time matters, take BART. If budget matters most and you have flexibility, a shared shuttle gets you there for less than a solo rideshare.
Option 5: SamTrans Bus
SamTrans routes 292 and 398 connect SFO to downtown San Francisco for $2.25–$5. Buses stop at the Arrivals/Baggage Claim level at each terminal. This is the cheapest option but the slowest — frequent stops and surface traffic mean 45–60+ minutes to downtown. Unless BART is unavailable, take BART instead.
Option 6: Rental Car
The SFO rental car center is connected to the terminals via the free AirTrain — ride to the Rental Car Center stop. All major agencies are there. The consideration with a rental car isn’t the car itself — it’s parking once you arrive in San Francisco. Hotel parking downtown runs $35–$60 per night.
