The Italian Heritage Festival San Francisco weekend is October 10–11, 2026, and this year it shares the waterfront with Fleet Week. Here’s how to plan for both.

You can watch from anywhere along the route. If you’d rather sit than stand, several North Beach restaurants set up street-side tables during the parade, including Original Joe’s, Piazza Pellegrini, and Tony’s Pizza Napoletana. Fleet Week Is the Same Weekend
Fleet Week runs October 4–12, 2026, and the air show is Friday through Sunday, October 9–11, from 12pm to 4pm. The air show flies over the bay between the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz, and huge crowds gather along the Marina and Fisherman’s Wharf to watch it.
That means Sunday’s parade starts in the same area, at nearly the same time, as the last day of the air show. Expect packed sidewalks, full garages, and slow traffic across the whole northern waterfront. If you want to catch both, plan to stay on foot all day.
Getting to North Beach
Walk in From Union Square or Chinatown
North Beach doesn’t have its own BART station. It’s a 15–20 minute walk from Powell Street or Montgomery Street BART through Chinatown, which keeps you clear of most of the waterfront traffic.
If you’re coming from the Ferry Building, the F-line historic streetcar runs along the Embarcadero to Fisherman’s Wharf near the start of the route.
Muni will reroute on parade day. Muni lines are detoured around the formation area and route until the streets clear. In past years the Powell–Mason cable car has stopped running on Mason during the parade, while Powell–Hyde kept running. Check SFMTA’s Travel Updates page on the day before you go.

Street Closures and Parking
Closures start early. SFMTA closes streets for parade formation around Fisherman’s Wharf starting as early as 8am. In 2025, that included Beach, North Point, and Francisco near Mason and Stockton, and Powell between Chestnut and Beach. Streets along the route in North Beach close during the parade itself.
The 2026 closure list will be posted on SFMTA’s Travel Updates page shortly before the event. Don’t plan to park or drive anywhere near those streets on Sunday.
North Beach parking is tight on a normal weekend. With parade closures and Fleet Week crowds together, reserving a garage in advance is the only reliable way to park.
